  Tony Escapa (Drums)

Tony Escapa IV was born in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico. His father was a professional pianist and musical director for over 30 years while his mother worked as a television host. It was clear at a young age that artistic passion, music and talent were a part of him; although starting to play the guitar at age 9, Escapa found himself naturally playing a Yamaha drum set at his second guitar lesson. Guided by his father, Escapa devoted himself to practicing the drums during those early years in order to earn the right to a drum kit. Escapa went to high school in Orlando, Florida, where he was a part of the High School Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble, Concert Bands and Marching Band and was awarded numerous awards by the school and the state. Later Escapa received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston and traveled to Washington, Japan and Puerto Rico representing Berklee as one of the promising young talents on the drumset. Escapa has performed, toured, and recorded with Obbie Bermudez, Ricky Martin, PUYA, Al Di Meola, Larry Harlow, El Reencuentro 2004, Paoli Mejias and Leo Blanco. Escapa was also a part of the Jazz Ambassadors Program at the Kennedy Center of Arts and traveled to Central and Western Africa to bring Latin Jazz music to that side of the world. Escapa now resides in New York and is part of the local music scene playing with such artists as Claudia Acuņa, Miguel Zenon, Dana Leong, Simon Shaheen, Paquito D' Rivera, Christian Scott, Christian Mcbride, and many more.
