The Moon and Stars Project is proud to stand in collaboration with the esteemed Carnegie Hall to present two concerts in support of the 2007-2008 Citi Global Encounters program that celebrates the deep-rooted folk music traditions and culture of Turkey. The Citi Global Encounters program introduces high school students to musical styles from around the world with the aim of setting up larger social and historical perspectives from the cultural context of music-making. This year’s concerts share similar concerns in trying to place the musical traditions of Turkey in the greater picture of our contemporary world. Also a part of Carnegie Hall Neighborhood Concert Series, the two free concerts give the New York community at large a chance to be introduced to Turkish music. Now in its 32nd season, the Neighborhood Concert Series presents free concerts for New Yorkers of all ages in collaboration with museums; colleges; libraries; community, cultural, and religious centers; and shelters throughout the five boroughs.
