Yalçın Gökçebağ

Yalçın Gökçebağ was born in 1944, in a village in western Anatolia. His upbringing in rural Turkey greatly influenced his vision as an artist and his paintings generally reflect this core of impressions he collected during his childhood in an Anatolian village, often including images of village life. Gökçebağ considers his earliest exposure to painting to be a primitive image of a lion struggling with a snake wrapped around his waist that he once glimpsed on the side of a bus. Inspired by this painting, Gökçebağ soon gained the attention of his teachers and his peers for his artistic talents in high school. This recognition gave him the incentive to formally train as an artist in Istanbul. Besides his own personal past, Gökçebağ also found inspiration in the images of Anatolia he captured while working as a cameraman at Turkish Radio and Television. He has presented his work in exhibitions all around Turkey and in major European cities like London and Paris.
