Ugur Yucel

Uğur Yücel was born in İstanbul in 1957 and graduated from the theater division of the State Conservatory. He began his acting career with stand-up shows. In 1983 he started acting in feature films and became one of the most popular and successful contemporary Turkish actors with the characters he portrayed in movies such as Muhsin Bey, for which he won the Best Supporting Actor Award in the 24th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, Selamsız Bandosu (The Selamsız Band), Arabesk (Arabesque), Eşkıya (The Bandit), and Balalayka. Yücel also produced, directed and starred in some of the most prominent programs in Turkish television history such as Aziz Ahmet, İkinci Bahar, Karanlıkta Koşanlar and Alacakaranlık. In 2004, he wrote and directed his first feature film, Yazı Tura (Toss-up), which won the Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Editing, Best Original Music, Best Costume, Best Hair and Make-Up Design and Best Sound Mixing awards at the Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, and the Best Director, Best Actor and People’s Choice Awards in the International İstanbul Film Festival.
