Nurdan Arca

Nurdan Arca organized the first short film festival of Turkey, Hisar Short Film Festival, in 1968. She got her B.A. degree in Economics from Robert College, İstanbul, in 1970. Afterwards she began a Ph.D program on regional development at Brunel University in London in 1971. Having returned to İstanbul after the military coup of 1971, she completed her M.A. degree in political economy at İstanbul University in 1980. She wrote articles for Milliyet Art Magazine between 1984-1986. Her first 22-minute documentary was about the imprisonment years of Turkish painter Orhan Taylan. Nurdan Arca founded independent documentary production company Ajans 21 with Melek Uluagay Taylan in 1992. She produced and directed numerous documentaries within the company. She served as an executive board member of the Association of Documentary Filmmakers in Turkey until 2006. She was the festival director of the 8th and 9th International 1001 Documentary Film Festival in İstanbul in 2005 and 2006.
