Since the death in 1981 of his father, the masterful Turkish composer Münir Nurettin Selçuk, Timur Selçuk has esteemed his father’s legacy by giving a renewed ascription to his compositions. This performance will pay homage to Münir Nurettin Selçuk, with the first half of the concert being completely dedicated to his beautiful signature music, which made a lasting impression on more than a decade on Turkish music fans. Timur Selçuk and 3 of his orchestra members will be performing Münir Nurettin Selçuk’s timeless songs including Kalamis, Aziz Istanbul, and Rindlerin Aksami with the same manner of classicism and toning that the elder Selçuk invented over seventy years ago. In the second half of the performance, Timur Selçuk will be performing his own compositions including Sen Nerdesin?, Ayrilanlar Için, Beyaz Güvercin, and Ispanyol Meyhanesi, which blend his father’s classical tradition with contemporary music. If Münir Nurettin Selçuk painted peoples’ ears with his lyrical classicism, Timur Selçuk is continuing this tradition by adding modernist flavors to it. This performance will present a privileged opportunity to witness the musical careers of father and son Selçuks, both of whom touched peoples’ hearts in their unique styles.
