Michael McGinnis (soprano saxophone, clarinet)

After completing his Master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, Maine native Michael McGinnis moved to New York to tour the U.S. as the lead tenor saxophonist in the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra conducted by Buddy Morrow. With drummer Mark Dodge, McGinnis started the group Between Green, which released its first album in 2002. He later performed with the Four Bags Ensemble, who released albums in 2001 and 2004, both on NCM East Records. McGinnis also performs with the collective ensemble DDYGG and the Matt Glassmeyer Marching Band. He also performs with the Lonnie Plaxico Quintet, singer-songwriter Allison Tartalia (whose debut CD he co-produced), the Loser’s Lounge and the Andy Biskin Sextet. McGinnis currently teaches at Queens College, the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and the JCC on the Palisades.
