Dave Binney (alto saxophone)

Acclaimed compositional talent and saxophonist Dave Binney is one of today’s most prolific young jazz musicians. The Jazz Times praised him as one of a handful of "young players who have created an alternative jazz scene...all of whom are playing adventurous, original music." Binney has performed with such prestigious groups as the big bands of Gil Evans and Maria Schneider, Jim Hall, Bobby Previte and the Cecil McBee Quintet. He co-founded the hard-edged quintet Lost Tribe and the open-form collective quartet Lan Xang. Binney has performed and studied with Phil Woods, Dave Liebman and George Coleman. The National Endowment for the Arts recognized his talents with a grant to record his first album, Point Game. He has since produced and recorded a dozen albums.
