Dostlar Theather can be said to have found humor in Istanbul’s “fault line.” Through intelligent satire, Fay Hatti (Fault Line) theatrically renders the post-1999 quake-phobia that rocked Istanbul by focusing on a married couple and their neighbor, and their concerns about and precautions against another potential earthquake. According to director Genco Erkal, the play assumes “a critical stance toward such extremes of behavior by exploring more complex levels of absurd theater.” Finding humor in such an enormous tragedy is no small feat, but it is one that playwright Ak and director Erkal have pulled off along with the help of a stellar cast.
