Behiç Ak
Behiç Ak was born in Samsun. He studied architecture at Istanbul
Technical University. Since 1982, he has been drawing the cartoon series
Kim Kime Dum Duma in Cumhuriyet, a prominent Turkish newspaper.
His previous plays The Building, Break-up, The Hospital
and One-Man Town have been staged at prominent theaters such as
Istanbul City Theater, Aksanat Production Theater, and Ankara Art Theater.
The Building won the Turkish Ministry of Culture’s Special
Award and Break-up and One-Man Town won the Cevat Fehmi
Baskut Playwright Award. Ak has succeeded in publishing six cartoon books
in Turkey and Germany and eleven children’s books in Turkey and Japan.
His cartoons have appeared in various exhibitions in the Netherlands, Germany,
and Switzerland as well as in Turkey. He is also a successful documentary
film maker. His documentary film The History of Censorship in Turkish
Cinema won the Ankara Film Festival Award and Turkish Ministry of Culture’s
Special Award. |
