The Greek newsletter Paros Life recently described Cem Duruöz's music as, "committed playing and devotion to beauty of sound and thought." This is just one of many accolades the Turkish guitarist has received from critics. The winner of the Artists International annual award for outstanding artist, Duruöz will make his Carnegie Hall debut at Weill Recital Hall. The program will feature Duruöz's transcriptions of French Baroque composer Marin Marais' gamba music. In addition to Marais' A minor suite, Duruöz will narrate and perform Marais' bizarre programmatic piece Depiction of a Surgery for the Removal of a Stone. The American Record Guide has described Pièces de Viole, the CD in which Duruöz recorded these works, as "stylish, elegant and unexpectedly idiomatic."
