Based on the novel by Cevat Şakir Kabaağaç, also known as "Halikarnas Balıkçısı" (The Fisherman of Halicarnassus), Mavi Sürgün (The Blue Exile) is a biographic story of the famous author about his exile to Bodrum in the 1920s, where he later settled and spent the rest of his life. The simple life he leads in Bodrum and the beauty of the Aegean coast trigger an internal journey, quite similar to the teacher's in Hakkari'de Bir Mevsim (A Season in Hakkari), and Cevat Şakir starts to encounter his past, turning his punishment into a gift. The film, noted for Kenan Ormanlar's beautiful cinematography and the guest appearance of Hanna Schygulla, tells his story through the use of flashbacks.
