The whole country looked like an endless hunting ground towards the end of the 1970s. Mysterious and frightening men were the hunters; students, academicians, writers and journalists were the hunted. After the murder of a close friend, a writer moves to the island of Cunda to deal with his depression and starts to question the meaning of his career. Although the island, with its distinct architecture and Greek Orthodox churches, is remote enough to give him some peace and quiet, it will not be easy to escape from the rampant violence and bloodshed dominating the rest of the country. Av Zamanı (The Hunting) is the first Turkish film that makes references to the period of terror and anarchy Turkey suffered before the military coup of September 12th, 1980. Although these references are quite subtle, the film can still be considered as a personal account of that period.
