This excerpt from distinguished Turkish playwright Murathan Mungan s play Mahmud and Yezida explores intolerance between peoples from different religious and cultural groups. Mahmud and Yezida is a love story between a young Muslim man and a Kurdish Yezidi girl who live in Southeastern Turkey. When their families oppose their relationship, their love becomes the emblem of a struggle against narrow-minded traditions, and the couple martyrs for tolerance.
