3 Nokta Oyunculari present a two-play performance comprising “Bir Kahramanın Ölümü (The Death of a Hero)” by Adalet Ağaoğlu that tackles the issue of heroism, and “Bir Ölümün Kahramanı (The Hero of a Death),” a stage adaptation of the Ağaoğlu novel “Ölmeye Yatmak (In Lying Down to Die)” by Fulya Peker that purports sincerely to transcend the works of the prominent Turkish writer.

Who is a hero? What is heroism? How does one become a hero? What are the internal contradictions behind the societal responsibility stemming from heroism? Does one have to die to become a hero? Aren’t we all the heroes of our lives through memories of our conscience, poems, songs and anthems, our passions? What happens if we are expected to become heroes in other people’s lives as well?

Adalet Ağaoğlu represents an important milestone in the history of Turkish literature, and is an internationally-acclaimed prominent author. Her plays and novels examine the individual from the perspective of societal identity, making sure not to neglect internal conflicts and existential crises and with a style that brings together elements that are absurd, archival and romantic.
