The American Turkish Society and Moon and Stars Project are proud to present a benefit concert to pay tribute to Hrant Dink, the Turkish-Armenian journalist and editor-in-chief of the Turkish-Armenian weekly Agos newspaper, who was assassinated on January 19, 2007.

In this unprecedented gathering, world-renowned percussionist Arto Tunçboyacıyan and Turkish rock artist Yaşar Kurt who together formed the musical collaboration Yash-Ar will share the stage with musicians from the Armenian Navy Band to perform Tunçboyacıyan’s timeless songs, as well as works from Yash-Ar’s debut album Against Hatred and Animosity (Nefrete Kine Karşı), which includes a special song dedicated to the memory of Hrant Dink. Proceeds of the concert will go to The International Hrant Dink Foundation.

This special program represents a genuine effort to follow in the footsteps of the late Turkish-Armenian journalist Hrant Dink in embracing peace and fostering dialogue between the peoples of Turkey and Armenia and their respective communities around the world. We are particularly pleased to present this concert at a time of renewed reconciliation efforts between the two countries, despite a troubled history and ongoing political, social and cultural hurdles to mutual understanding. We believe that the arts can contribute significantly to these efforts.
