Join us for a conversation with renowned Turkish illustrator Gürbüz Doğan Ekşioğlu who will walk us through the evolution of his artistic career and give a visual presentation of his work. Signed copies of his illustrations will be on sale at the event.

Gürbüz Doğan Ekşioğlu

Ekşioğlu was born in the northern Turkish city of Mesudiye in Ordu province in 1954. He studied graphic design at the State College of Fine Arts in Istanbul, and remained at the same school, now known as Marmara University Faculty of Fine Arts, for 25 years as an assistant professor. Since 2006, he has been working at Yeditepe University Faculty of Fine Arts, Graphic Design Department, as an assistant professor. In addition to having been published in Turkey, many of his works have also appeared in the U.S., Germany, Belgium, Bulgaria, China, Iran, Switzerland, Japan, Canada, Kosovo, Macedonia, Hungary, Pakistan and Greece.
He has been drawing illustrations since 1977 and holds a total of 71 awards, of which 27 are international. Ekşioğlu has participated in numerous national and international collective displays and has opened 12 solo exhibitions including one in New York. He has drawn many cartoons and illustrations for various newspaper and magazines including Forbes (cover page), The Atlantic, and The New York Times (op-ed and book review sections), and his work has appeared on six covers of the New Yorker. He holds the internationally acclaimed Sedat Simavi Visual Arts Award, which he received in 1998. Two of his works have been printed on UNICEF postcards, which have been sold throughout the world.
